I Would Tell You That This Is The Finest Walnut Wood,Pennsylvania Chip Carved Spice Box You're ever Going to have a chance to buy !!! It is from the Goshen area of Chester County ,Pennsylvania and is Dated "1836". Any Museum would drool over this piece ,and would love to have it donated to them ,especailly in the Philadelphia ,Pa. area!!! It is all Wood Pegged together ,and it has 4 turned feet that elevate it off the Table. The Feet are all original. This Spice Box it in Original ,Unotuched Condition, having NO repairs of any kind !!!It is Profusely hand Carved with Pennsylvania German Designs ,and it reeks with History. The Date can be seen for more that a few feet away ,it is very bold. There is and area at the front of the lid ,that has Fabric Sewn to it, this has long since been worn away ,and can be replaced .The Lid fits well and slides easily .It has 6 Interior Compartments used for holding rare Spices. It has it's original finish and hand worn smooth surface Patina. It measures 9 1/4" long x 5" wide x 2 1/2" high. This would easily have an estimated price tag of 4,500.00 to 8,500.00 at an upscale shop or show. It is ,I feel the finest example of an American Spice Box on the planet !!!
