Increase Sales by 18% and double your hits - Vendio Gallery I have a good number of interesting antiques for sale this week including a superb Georgian period chip carved box from Friesland, some superb snuff boxes including a stunning table snuff box and other fine antiques.

This auction is for a very fine antique Russian box dating to the late 18th or early 19th Century and probably from Kholmogory, Archangelsk.

It is superbly made out of pierced, carved and engraved bone (Ebay please note: this is beef or mutton bone and not bone from and endangered species) which has then been dyed red and green (the red has now become a light orange / sepia colour through age). The quality of the carving is exceptional and beneath the bone lattice work there is a thin silver coloured foil paper.

Although it has had repairs and there are some small losses, the box is in good overall condition, would make a fabulous addition to a collection of Russian folk art and is offered at a very low start price and with no reserve

Good overall condition for such a box but there are small areas of restoration and damage. The hinges work well but are restored and there are losses to the bone in places. The inside of the box shows some old woodworm activity and one long split in the base. It still presents well as the photos show - please click on the photos for an enlarged view. The key works well for it but shouldn't be forced too far as it would break and could possibly damage the box - I'm not sure if it is original but will include a photo of it later in the week.

The box measures about 8.5" / 21.5cms wide, 5.75" / 14.6 cms deep (both measurements across the feet) and it stands about 4.75" / 12cms tall.

I will be posting from TUESDAY 2ND to MONDAY 8TH JUNE so payment must be received by MONDAY 8TH JUNE at the latest.
