GREAT OLD PRIMATIVE STYLE PAINTED WOOD BOX WITH EIGHT SIDES! I have seen a lot of old boxes over the years but this is the first one like this I have seen. This box was hand made with square nails and then painted. I think the original colors were red and blue but the paint has darkend a lot over the years. It looks like the original paint and it has a wonderful warm patina that only comes from years of age and use. Lots of natural wear and scratches and scrapes. The wood looks like pine or cedar but I am not sure. The bottom wood panel has a crack that looks like it was caused by wood shrinkage over time. There is a small lock for the hindged lid but I do not have the key. The box measures 12 1/2" across and stands 6" high. Well made by a skilled hand. I believe it dates to the 19th century but exact age is unknown. An expert out there may recognize if this box has a specific purpose and be able to better determine its age. It smell of wood inside but is not wet or musty smelling. Truely a wonderful addition to any collection of painted primative items. Buyer to pay actual cost for shipping and insurance, Thanks.
