Beautiful Antique Leather Writing Box Slope 1894 Picture(s) and Description:

Beautiful antique leather bound writing box with slope, monogrammed and dated "ML 1894". Nice embossed black leather exterior with brass details. The inside has storage for papers and writing instruments and a flip out leather covered writing area. This box is approximately 12 1/2" long, 9 1/2" deep and 6" tall.

It is in beautiful condition but does has a few minor issues. On the exterior there is some scuffing to the leather, primarily on the edges and corners, but no rips. The box does have a lock but I do not have the key and I am not completely certain that the latching mechanism is original (see picture). The interior is in great condition with only a few minor issues. One of the pulls on the slope surface has been replaced with a fabric loop instead of the original leather (difficult to tell) and one side of the slope has become detached but could easily be reattached. And finally, I believe the fabric on the bottom is a replacement - it is a very bright pink cordoroy material (it cannot be seen unless the box is turned over!). Given that the box is over 100 years old it is in wonderful condition!
