Early 19th C. Dovetailed Canted Large Painted Dough Box Picture(s) and Description:
An exceptional early 19th C. dovetailed canted large dough box in its original oxblood red paint. This piece has the best untouched surface with a wonderful patina. It is constructed with large hand cut square nails and is dovetailed on all four corners. There are a couple shrinkage cracks at the bottom, and some wear consistent with age, otherwise in excellent condition. This early dough box measures 34" long, 18 1/2" wide at the top and 13 1/2" wide at the bottom. It stands 10 3/4" tall on the sides with the handles and the other sides are 9" tall. The bottom board is chamfered on all four sides on the outside edge. Please see my other auctions for more great early primitives and folk art.
