This is a very hard to find silver box of the Rococo period in France, dating back to the year 1768. The case shows all the necessary marks to prove its authenticity please read the MARKS section of this listing.

On the lid is a scenery of two love couples in a garden. This motif is framed by stylized cornucopias with flowers. The base is also florally ornamented and on the bottom is a flower basket again framed by cornucopias.

Silver. With remains of partial gilding. Very fine embossing and chase work.

From a Viennese private collection, assembled during the past 20 years.

Inside the lid marked with the makers mark (poincon de maitre-orfevre) in the shape of a crowned fleur de lys incorporating the initials A.D. At the rim of the base appears the mark of discharge (poincon de decharge) in shape of a hound head. This mark was used between 1762 and 1768. Inside the lid and twice inside the base are the following marks: two crossed twigs (most certainly a symbol mark of the silversmith) and finally the mark of maison commune of the city of Paris, dating the box back to the year 1768.

Very fine condition with tiny dentings as well as abrasions.
