DESCRIPTION Antique German, Victorian, Porcelain, Conta & Boehme, Match Striker Holder or Trinket Box, circa 1850-1899. Rare Three-Spot box with a Victorian grandmother sitting in a chair fast asleep. Her two grandchildren are playing a practical joke as they are unraveling her knitted shawl. The match striker is under the lid of this box. Model number 2146 incised on cover rim. Group C, valued at $150-$250. The colors are fantastic, the two children, a boy and girl have dark hair and grandma has gray hair. This box is listed in the Vogel's books, Victorian Trinket Boxes on page66-67, Plate 67, view a. Similar boxes can be seen in Conta & Boehme Porcelain. This is such a beautiful box! Measures 3-1/2 inches long, 4-1/2 inches tall and 1-3/4 inches wide. These collectible items have adopted the name "fairing boxes" because they were given away at fairs between 1840 - 1900 in England and were later sold at shops and bazaars in many different sizes. They were actually made in Germany. Because of the delicate porcelain they have not survived very well; and it's very lucky to find one in this condition. CONDITIONAlmost Excellent Condition: The string that's being pulled by the boy has broken off near his hands but it's hardly noticeable. A few tiny chips on the rim of the base but you don't see them when the lid is on. Your eyes may be better than mine, but I do try to describe to the best of my ability because I am not an expert on antiquesPayment expected in 7 business days!
