mid 19th C SILVER & CLOISONNE ENAMEL SNUFF BOX Russian? Picture(s) and Description:

Offered is an antique CLOISONNE ENAMEL SILVER SNUFF BOX with HINGED LID. This piece hails from mid 19th Century, circa 1850 to 1880. There are no hallmarks, but I believe it to be Imperial Russian, perhaps from Moscow, Russia. However, the enameled decoration is just unusual enough to make me a bit unsure. If one of you experts knows, please email me and I'll post the information on this site. I think the silver is of about 800 to 840 purity, a bit less than 925 Sterling. This beautiful small box measures 2 7/8" long x 2" wide x ½" high. The entire exterior is covered with exquisite cloisonne work - a big flowering plant on the cover against a rich translucent red amber enamel background. There are scrolling leaves and berries around the sides. The edges are all rimmed with three tiny rows of twisted silver. There is a little thumb tab on the front. Enameled colors are pink shaded to white, turquoise blue fading to white, green, chartreuse, cobalt blue, and the amber color. The condition is quite good, but there are some areas of enamel loss on the corners and on the upper right corner of the lid (see photos). All those losses are very old. There is also some bumping on the bottom side. Professionals can do excellent repair work on this kind of enamel. This box was obviously used a lot, but lovingly kept for about 150 years! Still a wonderful find for the advanced collector. Don't miss out on this fabulous opportunity. ~~~~~~~~ Please ask questions before bidding because sales are final unless I have made a grave error in my description.
