SUPERB 19C CHINESE CINNABAR LACQUER RELIEF WORKED BOX Picture(s) and Description:

For auction we have here a superb 19c Chinese cinnabar lacquer circular table box performed in deep relief. This box was produced in China during the later part of the 1800s destined for the export market. The scene of the top lid depicts a central long table with two figures appearing to be examining a textile or paper containing a floral design all outdoors amoungst rockery, trees and a cloud filled skyline as well as a large meandering pine tree with a well done trunk, branches and expertly worked pine boughs. The background is made up of 3 separate geometric designs with the sides of the top and bottom designed with yet another geometric treatment. The inside of the top and bottom areas as well as the underneath are finished in the original black surface lacquer. Condition is excellent with no cracks, losses, repairs or restorations having only the expected age related light wear to the inner rims and a few small edge flakes otherwise wonderful. Size: Diameter 4" x Height 2". A nice addition for the cinnabar lacquer and or antique box collector. The winner will be thrilled!
